Face Paint Safety Information

When hiring a face painter, ensure that they follow strict safety procedures when providing face painting services. This can help ensure the safety and happiness of your family and guests.

Here at Silly Kitty Parties, safety and fun are our top priorities. Below are some of the procedures that we follow to ensure a safe time.

We utilize only the top brands of water-based face paints, which are cosmetic-grade and consist of FDA-compliant ingredients. They are largely fragrance-free, paraben-free, and common allergen-free. Being water-based makes the designs easy to wash off with soap and water.

Note: If you are considering face painting yourself, please make sure to do your research and get quality water-based face paints. NEVER use acrylic paint, as this can easily cause allergic reactions.

To ensure that there is no contamination between children, we use what is called a “three-pot system”. We have a cup with water and a brush bath (specialized soap) that we clean our brush, a clean water cup to rinse the brush, and another clean water cup to dip the brush before use. In between every child, we make sure our brushes are sanitized before using them again. The water gets changed frequently as well.

Note: Never reuse a brush between children, as this can transfer contaminants and germs.

When using sponges, we will never reuse a sponge on a different child. Due to the porous surface, it is easy to trap contaminants and germs within the sponges. While cleaning is possible, it can’t guarantee complete sanitation. It is safer to use another sponge and clean them thoroughly after the gig.

Our artists maintain clean hands by using hand sanitizer and baby wipes to make sure not share any contaminants or germs.

For the safety of your guests, our artists will not paint on children with cuts or sores, skin conditions, or those who are ill. This can be disappointing for the child, but the risk of harming them or other children is too high to take the risk.

We will not paint on a child who has a mess on their face, such as ice cream or other foods. We do carry baby wipes to help clean the child’s face, though we do prefer that the parents do this beforehand. After a child’s face has been thoroughly cleaned, we will paint that child.

We make sure to operate with a clean work station by sanitizing and cleaning our tools between gigs, as well as maintaining our work area during the gig as needed to ensure a clean environment free from contaminants and germs.

This is just a list of the main ways we ensure the safety and fun of your guests. There is still more that we do in small ways that aren’t listed here for brevity’s sake. Please know that the safety of your guests is important to us.
